As a member association, Our Milwaukee depends on member volunteers to carry out the many responsibilities of the organization. Once such responsibility is managing the business as a director on our board.

Our board is elected each year by the majority of members who attend our annual meeting. Each member organization has one vote to cast annually for the open director seats. In addition, if one of the director seats was also an officer of the board, the officer election also occurs at the annual meeting.

Nominations for the 2010 elections open up on January 20. We hope to have a contested election again this year with more than two people running for the board.

We’re looking for individuals to be board candidates who meet the following criteria:

• Show evidence of participation and involvement in activities that are complementary and supportive of our mission and values
• Meet the eligibility requirements for board positions
• Have a background and experience complementary to the work of Our Milwaukee

The two seats up for election were held by representatives from Beans & Barley and Alterra Coffee Roasters, two of the founding member organizations of Our Milwaukee. One of those two board seats is also an officer seat (board vice president). Our Bylaws allow for up to four of the board seats to continue to be occupied by representatives of founding members.
